Principal’s Message

Dear Mattos Families,


I hope everyone is continuing to stay safe and healthy. Due to recent unrest we had to cancel drop offs and pick-ups this week. We did this for safety purposes but have scheduled time during the week of June 8th to the 12th to drop off laptops and library books and collect student belongings as well as medications if any, and preordered yearbooks. Thank you for your understanding with the scheduled changes. You should have heard from your teacher regarding these.  Teachers will let you know when they are scheduling for next week. Everyone has a specific schedule to assist with social distancing.


We are asking that all families that checked out Chrome Books please return them to the site for cleaning and servicing. This is especially important for these going to ESY as the ESY Program will check out a Chrome Book to your students. If families not in ESY (Extended School Year) are dedicated to continuing with online learning on their own using the many available programs we have you can make a request to me to utilize Chrome Books over the summer. Parents should be aware that we are going paperless with Report Cards and with Maze Day. You need to have access to Parent Portal to access report cards and Maze Day forms.  Although this has been communicated before here is the following reminder and update:


Parents must activate their Illuminate Parent Portal using the Access Key code which was sent to them via a Fremont USD Notification email. If you are reading this and you haven’t received an email notification, it either means you DID set up a Parent Portal and forgot, or there is no email or an invalid email noted in our student system.  You can check to see if you have an account by entering your username—legal name you used when you registered your child for FUSD—and clicking on the “forgot password” button. 


Fremont Unified School District and the school site will be sending out another email blast to the families who have not set up their Illuminate Parent Portal.

                   MAZE DAY UPDATE:

Mattos Elementary will be conducting ONLINE MAZE Days in August to obtain emergency paperwork and provide parents with their child’s classroom assignment online. Please watch for more information on the exact dates when we will open up the portal process. 



What does this mean for parents? How does this online process work?

What Online MAZE Day means is that the parent marked “Primary” in our system will be able to go into their Illuminate Parent Portal, fill out important Student Emergency Card information online and submit that information with other requested information directly to the Mattos office staff. The  parent designated as primary will be the only one able to access the forms that need to be completed. The office staff will not be able to change the designation of “primary” parent for this event.


The online process means an end to long lines and allows parents access at times that fit their schedules. This will be the first year that Mattos does an online Maze Day and we hope it will be our best year ever. We need parents to make sure they have Parent Portal set up so that they can access report cards and Maze Day forms.

I’d like to thank all parents who have already set up Parent Portal.


Thank you to parents and families as well for working with students at home. It takes everyone to support our students and I appreciate the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents and others helping out. We have all kinds of home teachers who support our students. You are heroes and I appreciate the hard work you do in assisting students at home.
